Brother by Ania Ahlborn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Ania Ahlborn, The Voice of New Horror...
When I read this, I thought to myself "That's a tough statement to back up!" Then I read Brother and said, "Well, I think I'm convinced!" Having read Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Joe Hill, Ted Dekker and so many others, I'm always looking for someone new and different. I believe I've found it in Ania Ahlborn!
Brother is the story of young Michael Morrow, kidnapped at 4 years old to be used as a pet for Ray/Reb -- his "older brother". To say the Morrow family is a bit twisted would be an understatement. The whole family knows their role. Claudine the evil "mother", Wade the submissive "father", Ray/Rebel the "brother" and brains of the operation, Misty Dawn the lonely "sister" and Michael, the pet, the cleaner, the "brother" and protector of Misty. The brothers are forced (at least one of them is forced) to kidnap young girls to be tortured and murdered by Claudine, their demented mother. Michael maintains his role in the family until he meets the love of his life, Alice...better known as "Snow White".
It is true that love breaks all bonds and Michael gains incredible strength as his love for Alice grows...but can he bring her into the family fold? Rebel thinks so, but not in the way Michael wants.
I can't tell you any more because telling you too much will destroy the incredible twists and turns the story takes, several that hit me from left field...I never saw it coming!
An incredible storyteller, Ahlborn crafts a tell of horror that shakes you to the core, not only because it's scary...but because its totally plausible! Ania Ahlborn, I'M A FAN and am looking forward to reading other yarns you have spun!

WHAT IS SUNPIPER ALL ABOUT?
In 2004 I had an idea. An idea to create a literary
outlet for positive messages. Rather than using a business model,
however, I chose to use a political type, "grass roots" model (Political
Science is in my training). I believed that if I offered something
positive to people, positive people would support it. Rather than court
corporate sponsorship and corporate control, I would seek support from
the very people I wished to reach. This was the birth of Sunpiper.
During Sunpiper's time, I meet so many wonderful people! Independent authors that wanted an outlet to spread their message (www.sunpiperbookreview.com), incredible poets, musicians and entertainers. It eventually led to Sunpiper Media publishing books for the market. Sunpiper was my true labor of LOVE. Unfortunately, before it was completely on its feet, physical circumstance prevented me from being able keep my Sunpiper vibrant. It became too much for one person to handle without adequate income and her brilliance dimmed.
(But it never died)
As you all know, I love to tell stories...I love to share positive thoughts and encouragement. At this time in our country and our world, there is such a lack of positive enrichment. For this reason, August of 2015 will be the rebirth of Sunpiper Press. Like a phoenix from ashes, I believe she will rise again and shine a positive light for our society to witness. I believe this is my calling..but I still cannot do it alone. I need YOU!
I am not asking for your money for that would defeat the purpose of what Sunpiper is all about. What I am asking of you is for your time and support for the people that will display their work and bare their soul for you on in this forum. I ask you to participate in spreading positive messages to the world. These artist need support, they need feedback, they need not only a stage in which to perform, but an AUDIENCE to hear their message. I'M ASKING YOU TO BE THAT AUDIENCE?
Sunpiper is about positive messages so I hope that you will come and listen, read, INTERACT, observe, RESPOND and maybe, just maybe, share a bit of your own soul.
Will you all join me?

RACING FOR HUMANITY
Why must we refer to each other as a race?
Why can we not just be known as "people"?
And we constantly ask the age-old question
"Why in this world can there be so much evil?"
A child is born with a discriminating eye,
When they see a difference, they just might stare.
But untainted by hate, they just see another child,
Because in reality they just don't care.
Ever thought what teach about racing?
"A competition between the slow and fast."
And forever afterwards, they tend to believe,
It is unacceptable to finish the race last.
Society is corroded with racial supremacy,
And this hate has spawned racial upheaval.
But would we be corrupted with this destructive belief,
If we saw each other as just "people"?
There is nothing wrong with pride in a culture,
But let's teach appreciation rather than conceit.
Because the most important aspect of running a race,
Is not to win, but to passionately compete.
